Early start today.  Plan to go fishing this morning; so opted for a 5 mile treadmill workout before departing.  Hope the Trout are still biting when we get there. Pond was stocked less than a week ago.  They should be hungry, hopefully they will bite!

Glad it is Sunday; no workout today. Getting a much needed break on the feet. Rather be fishing but have family commitments that have priority. Will be out and about later today, and will post using the Mobile Blog Feed any items of interest. All for now.

PS: Checked out a few movies recently and submitted reviews to Jerry for posting. Of note, "Charlie Bartlett" was good; "Max Payne" was not; and "Swing Vote" was okay. Last movie seen at the theater was "Yes Man" with Jim Carey and Zoey Deschanel. Liked it!

Feels like I have recovered from last weekend, but a cold front came in last night.  So, wimped out and went for the treadmill workout.  Ran 6 miles at a moderate pace.

Still in pain today and still trying to recoup from playing paintball.  A little better compared to yesterday at least.  Sticking with the treadmill workout for now.  Ran 4.25 miles at a slow pace.

January 20, 2009

In pain today, trying to recoup from playing paintball.  Despite a warm morning, decided on a treadmill workout to minimize the aches and pains.  Stayed motivated, and ran 4 miles at a slow pace.

January 19, 2009

Enjoyed a day of rest from running by playing a friendly game of paintball. Muscles are in pain and have a few more bruises. This weekend warrior is tired and beat. Will pick this up tomorrow, hopefully the aches won't be as bad.

January 18, 2009

Normally a day of rest today, but have plans for Monday. Going to play weekend warrior and play paintball. Been about two years since I last played, but I promised my Son that I would go. Usually takes about three days to recover from a day of play. So, will see how long it takes this round.

Did stay motivated and ran 4.5 miles at a slow pace. Took a different route than the other days. Cold start compared to yesterday but able to complete with minimal aches.

Shoe mileage to date: 31.5 miles

January 17, 2009

Warmer this morning. Ran 6 miles at a moderate pace. Route started at Celebration Park, through several sub-divisions, and then by Auburn Springs ponds. Expecting a nice day today with sunny skies! Good start for a three day weekend.

Coldest day yet for this Winter.  Temperatures in the teens this morning.  Opted for another run on the treadmill.  Ran 3.5 miles at a faster pace than yesterday.  Still listened to the news on the radio.  Noted traffic reports and alerts due to icy conditions.  Commute will be a bear, luckily a warming trend is due this weekend.

January 15, 2009

Too cold, stayed inside and ran on the treadmill.  Ran 4.25 miles maintaining a slow pace and listening to the news on the radio.  Boring but still counts as a workout.

Another cold morning with an Artic Blast forecasted tomorrow. Temperature was in the mid 20's when we started. Route began at Celebration Park, and then through the Lost Creek Subdivision.

At the 1.6 mile point, ran by a series of three ponds in the subdivision, stopped and took a picture, then continued on to Marion Elementary, Reed Elementary, and a running trail that parallels a creek just South of Reed.

Route totaled just over 5 miles per the GPS. Shoe mileage to date: 13.25 miles.

Pictures taken on the run.

January 13, 2009

Another cold morning but stayed motivated. Ran 4.25 miles on a route that included Shadow Lakes Trail, Bethany Lakes, and Bethany Creek, and Story Elementary. Living in the Metroplex, routes are mainly centered around the city parks, jogging/walking trails, and schools in the area.

Stayed warm by keeping a moderate pace, and managed to finish the route with minimal pain. Moving forward, going to track the mileage on these shoes to see how long they last before the cushioning wears out.

Shoe mileage to date: 8.25 miles

January 12, 2009

Cold morning but stayed motivated and ran around the neighborhood.  Route included running by Celebration Park, a local city park with two small ponds that our Fishing Club frequents.  Ran 4 miles and was glad to remind myself that I am a recreational runner given the time posted.

Under Armour's cold weather gear does keep you warm.  Also, the new shoes feel much better.  Thoughts are the cushioning on the old pair were worn out.  Bought the same model as the old pair; just this year's upgrade.  Shoe used is Brook's Adrenaline GTS 9; recommended for flat-footed runners.

All for now,
Staying Active!

January 11, 2009

A day of rest, so no running today. Going fishing at one of the area ponds instead. The pond is located in the city of Denison and is stocked with Trout. The Trout are not bruisers but are still fun to catch on light tackle. Supposed to be a cold morning but the Trout should be hungry!

January 10, 2009 - Out With The Old, In With The New.

Busy day today. Daughter had a Pole Vault Meet in Joshua, and then turned around for Son's Cross Country Team event in McKinney; Run On Texas is a sponsor for local schools and offers specials to students and their family.

Pole Vault Meet went well with some new personal records set for the club. Even replaced my old running shoes. So, more motivation to keep on running.

Out With The Old. In With The New.

January 10, 2009 - Note To Self

Note to Self - When running errands, pay close attention to the grocery list.

According to the resident cereal subject matter expert, there is a significant difference in the way Cocoa Krispies compared to Cocoa Pebbles reacts with milk.

For clarification, Cocoa Pebbles' chocolate coats the "pebbles" in a manner that allows the flavor to stay on longer than Cocoa Krispies.

Moving forward, Cocoa PEBBLES will be the cereal of choice.

Resolution/Next Steps - Once the current supply of Cocoa Krispies is depleted, inventory will be re-stocked with Cocoa Pebbles.

Quote - "I will gladly buy Cocoa Pebbles as soon as you (resident subject matter expert, also known as a teenage daughter) finish the box of Cocoa Krispies."

January 10, 2009 - Early Start

Had an early start this Saturday, running six miles at a slow pace on the treadmill. Wind is supposed to pick up later today and temperatures are expected to drop. Decided to stay indoors and watch the news channel while running on the treadmill. Glad tomorrow is Sunday, a rest day to give the feet time to rest.

January 9, 2009

With the holidays over and the whole year ahead, maintaining a workout program has become a chore. That said, have decided to begin using this forum as a runner's log.

So getting things started, the summary listed below captures this week's workout. Intentions going forward are to post updates with the completion of a workout.

  • Sat - 4 miles
  • Sun - Rest
  • Mon - 4 miles
  • Tue - 5 miles
  • Wed - 4 miles
  • Thu - 3.1 miles
  • Fri - 4 miles

December 6, 2008 - Rudolph Run

Entered the City of Allen's Rudolph Run again for 2008. Cold temperatures like last year. Regardless, the course was enjoyable to run with minimal hills, and despite the short rest from the Turkey Trot the week before, was able to post a 25:17. Much better than last year's Rudolph Run.

November 27, 2008 - Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot

Back to the "No Pain, No Gain" method, deciding to enter the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot held in downtown Dallas. Originally signed up for the 5K Race, changed my mind and ran the 8 Mile Run instead.

Having never run that distance for time before, decided to add an eight mile run on Monday to set expectations for the Turkey Trot on Thursday. Determined a blistering 10"/mile pace (ouch ... turtles will be passing me!) for eight miles was likely.

On Thursday in below freezing temperatures, ran with over 30,000 other runners in the Turkey Trot. First four miles felt good, even got a picture taken. Next half was brutal given an uphill run between mile five and mile six. Mile seven things felt better; mile eight was able to pick up the pace, but slowed down the last few 100 yards.

Result: Was hoping for an 80" time; ran just under 72" - slightly less than a 9"/mile pace. Better than anticipated but many more aches and pains than usual.

October 11, 2008 - Dash For Dignity Run

Made adjustments to the workout program, continued to run on a regular basis, and then entered the Dash For Dignity Run - a 5K race hosted by the Dallas YMCA held at White Rock Lake. Much cooler temperatures compared to July. Even better, ran the race in 25:23, an improvement of over one minute!

July 26, 2008 - Ice Cream & Peaches 5K and Jr. Sprint

As 2008 rolled around and the drudgery of work/running deflated motivation, decided to run in another 5K race. This one was hosted by the Plano Pacers Running Club and offered Bluebell Ice Cream and fresh peaches for runners. Could not pass that one up!

Ran the 5K in 26:36. Bottomline: After seven months of running, achieved a two second improvement. Hold off on the ice cream and reassess the running workout, something "ain't" working.

December 1, 2007 - First 5K Race

Signed up for the City of Allen's Rudolph Run, a 1 Mile Fun Run and timed 5K Race. Cold morning with a lot of stretching required. Ran the 5K in 26:38 and finished 14th in my age group. Not the best time but was nice to have an"official" time to reference.
